The Wakefield district has a unique artistic heritage as the birthplace of Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, two of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. This heritage is celebrated at both the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and The Hepworth Wakefield.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park covers 500 acres of beautiful landscape, has just been awarded the title ‘Yorkshire's Most Magnificent Attraction' and has been described as "Probably the finest site for sculpture in the world" (The Financial Times).
Since its opening in May 2011 The Hepworth Wakefield has welcomed over 250,000 visitors and is already being described as "One of the finest contemporary art museums in Europe" (The Independent)
Both artists studied art together in Leeds, so it is only fitting that Leeds has a further two galleries which compliment what is on offer in Wakefield. The Henry Moore Institute is a world-recognised centre for the study of sculpture and an award-winning exhibitions venue, whilst Leeds Art Gallery has been described as ‘Probably the best collection of twentieth century British art outside London' (John Russell Taylor, The Times).
Between the four venues visitors are offered a world class art experience which can be enjoyed easily over a weekend or a mini-break.
