The Wakefield district offers a great variety of attractive outdoor locations from local nature reserves and woods to award winning country parks and unique heritage sites.These sites offer many opportunities for walking, cycle rides, horse riding, fishing and enjoying wildlife. In many locations water is a vital element of the landscape either as a natural habitat for wildlife or as a setting for sport and fun such as canoeing, sailing and windsurfing.
For other sports enthusiasts the district offers participation and spectating opportunities at high class venues with major teams.

Options include a number of excellent golf courses, 3 major Rugby League teams, swimmimg pools, sports centres plus the chance to try popular outdoor sports skiiing and snowboarding but indoors, all year round.

 

Go Racing!

The Wakefield district is the only place in West Yorkshire where you can watch and enjoy horse racing and greyhound racing. Greyhound racing is available every week and horse racing between April & October.
