'Bootleg Eric' An Anniversary Benefit Concert presented by Claire Martin OBE and Ian Shaw.

This is a benefit concert given to celebrate Eric 'Bootleg' Parkin's 25 years of service to Wakefield Jazz. Over the years, Eric has earned the respect and affection of, not only the regulars who attend Wakefield Jazz, but of the musicians who play there. Indeed, it was they who conferred to him the soubriquet, 'Bootleg Eric' during the early years and in fact a concert was recorded live at the club and the subsequent CD was given that title; such was a measure of the high esteem they had for him.

Today's concert will be given by two of Britain's internationally acclaimed jazz vocalists - Claire Martin OBE and Ian Shaw. Both have played Wakefield Jazz a few times in past years. Claire has usually had a backing trio or quartet, whilst Ian provides his own accompaniment on piano. Only on rare occasions have we seen these two artists performing together, so I think we can look forward to a show of exceptional quality. They will, I think, present a unique performance comprising of the very best in music, song and witty repartee!
