Cultural Destinations

Wakefield’s outstanding cultural and visitor offer has the potential to become an important national and international cultural destination for the north of England. The Wakefield Cultural Consortium is a collective of Wakefield-based cultural organisations, visitor attractions and local businesses which are committed to working together and with Wakefield Council to promote the Wakefield District as a leading cultural destination nationally and internationally. Supported by a £223,000 grant from Arts Council England’s Cultural Destinations initiative, the Consortium will deliver a three-year programme starting in 2017 to enhance the profile of Wakefield and encourage visitors to the district, helping to grow the local economy and increase job opportunities.

Founding members of the Cultural Consortium include: National Trust Nostell, The Hepworth Wakefield, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, National Coal Mining Museum for England, Theatre Royal Wakefield, Unity Works, Xscape Yorkshire, The Art House, Beam, Edgelands Arts, Wakefield Arts Partnership, One to One Development Trust, Wakefield College and Wakefield Council.
