Open day at St Peter the Apostle Church at Wakefield
A mediaeval church dating back to Norman times. The church tower has 6 bells, one of which belongs to the 14th century, originating from Kirkstall Abbey (Leeds). A Grade II* listed building with tower and bells, church hall, lower and upper churchyards. In the lower churchyard are the graves of French nuns who settled in the area during the early 19th century. The church is set in a beautiful semi-rural area, surrounded by fields, farmlands and dwellings, some dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. It is situated near to the Pennine Way and a number of public footpaths. There will be tour guides to take visitors around the church, church grounds and tower. The Church is on Kirkthorpe Lane, Wakefield WF1 5SZ.

There will be a quiz, treasure hunt, drawing competition, colouring games, accompanied trips up the bell tower and top of the tower. Plenty for the whole family to do!
