Visit the National Coal Mining Museum for Engalnd and explore the 41 acre site to discover the hidden world of mining through the centuries. Visit our galleries to see how miners lived, worked and relaxed, from the Victorian age through to the modern day. Don a hard-hat and lamp, to descend 140 metres on an underground tour led by ex-miners to find out how coal was extracted and moved to the surface. Above ground, visit the ponies and learn about the part they played in coal mining. Explore the Nature Trail and watch wildlife from one of the bird hides. Take a train ride to Hope Pit and unearth the science of mining with the help of interactive displays. Lots of special events, exhibitions and children's activities throughout the year, plus regular craft fairs.

By Road:
Leave the M1 at jct 40 (A638) towards Wakefield, take the 1st right after the traffic lights (Broadway). The Malt Shovel pub will be on your right. At the end of Broadway turn right onto the A642 to Horbury and Huddersfield.

Nearest bus station: Wakefield Bus Station
Bus Route: Yorkshire Traction Bus 232 from Wakefield Bus Station. Drops off outside the Reindeer Inn.
