The West Yorkshire Archive Service, Wakefield, is home to thousands of records of the former West Riding and West Yorkshire county, including the Registry of Deeds, as well as being the record office for Wakefield Metropolitan District. The archive service also provide facilities such as conservation and microfilming.
As well as investigating local history, visitors can delve into their family's past by using the well-equipped search facilities on site.
Appointments recommended as the searchrooms can get very busy.
WYAS, Wakefield is due to relocate to the new state-of-the art West Yorkshire History Centre in the Kirkgate region of Wakefield in early 2017. In preparation for this exciting move, WYAS needs to repackage collections, barcode 100,000 containers, and complete many other areas of work over the next few months. To ensure these targets are met, the Registry of Deeds building will be closed to the public 'the third full week of each calendar month' from April and this will continue until new building is open.
General enquiries sent to the office in closure weeks will be dealt with when the office re-opens the following week.

Saturday openings until October 2015: The Wakefield office will be open between 9.30am and 1.00pm on the following Saturdays throughout 2015; 11 April, 9 May, 13 June, 11 July, 8 August, 12 September, and 10 October.
