This year the National Coal Mining Museum for England is celebrating the extraordinary lives of the heroes and heroines of coal mining.

Who do you consider a hero of mining? Maybe it is someone who showed you the ropes when just starting out in mining, or a relative that worked hard all their life to provide for their family. Perhaps it is someone that you have read about; an inventor, a social reformer or a rescue man going above and beyond.

There are lots of ways to nominate your hero.

If you come to the Museum, fill out a nomination card or talk to a member of staff.

If you can’t make it onsite, visit our online Hero’s hub, which includes lots of information such as our hero of the week and a heroes gallery.

If you are on social media, you can nominate on the Museum’s Facebook page or on Twitter at #WhatIsHeroism.

Commemorate a hero in your family in the Miners' Memorial Garden
