Details

7.48am on the 1st July 1916. On the first day of the Battle of the Somme, Captain R.E England of the 12th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry led D Company into No Man's Land. An emotional display by Wakefield Museum follows their journey.

This display commemorates 100 years since the Battle of the Somme and shows how miners from around Wakefield made the ultimate sacrifice. You'll find the display in the Burton Street entrance of Wakefield Museum.
