'This is my story... now tell me yours'
A one-day festival of reading and writing activities and events at Lightwaves Leisure and Community Centre celebrating the theme ‘This is my story... now tell me yours’, linking with the annual Lightwaves street party fundraiser.
Presented in partnership with Lightwaves Community Trust, Next Generation Youth and Community Project, Well Women Centre, Beam and lead artist Shazia Ashraf.
Daytime Programme 12pm-5pm
Drop in stalls, FREE events and activities for all the family with a host of Wakefield organisations represented. Children’s storytelling with Manasamitra, ‘Wakefield’s Duppatta’ poetry and dance, share your story with our poet in residence for the day, try your hand at calligraphy, hear an exclusive performance of fresh new writing from Agbrigg Girls Group, find out more about Lightwaves new heritage project gathering stories of arrival in Wakefield and much more besides.

Evening Programme - 6pm-9.30pm
LGBT short film screening and panel discussion, 6pm:
‘Why it is important to tell these stories’ with producer Bobby Tiwana and Ahmer Bashir of Project Light Yorkshire, an organisation which aims to highlight real stories from the LGBT community to challenge cultural and religious homophobia. Free, booking not required.
Reservoir Rami 7.30pm:
Reservoir Rami is a new comedy in development by Wakefield writer Azar Ashraf. In the middle of a right wing demonstration a riot breaks out. Three Asian youths unintentionally kidnap a Britain First member as the violence escalates. In a secure location as the severity of their actions sink in, the four youths debate, realising they have more in common than they care to admit.
Suitable for 16+. #ReservoirRami Tickets cost £5 please book via the box office.
To be followed by a Q&A exploring the themes of the play with the makers and guest speakers.
