Details
Wakefield’s Festival of Food, Drink & Rhubarb makes a welcome return to the city centre this February half-term, offering plenty of foodie-themed fun and entertainment for all to enjoy!
From Friday 22 to Sunday 24 February, the city centre will be home to our large festival market featuring many products with a rhubarb twist including artisan breads, preserves and cheeses to scrumptious cakes, delectable gins, wines and much more!
Alongside the festival market you can find a fine array of hot street food to enjoy – or pop into one of the city's many restaurants and cafes where you’re sure to find plenty of rhubarb-themed goodies.
Celebrity Chefs in our Marquee
Every year our celebrity chef demonstrations in our heated and seated marquee become more popular, and although entry is free make sure you arrive early to avoid missing out!
We’re proud to announce that Friday’s celebrity chef is Katie Rushworth from ITV’s ‘Love Your Garden’, who will be showing guests how to make a wonderful jam from locally-sourced Yorkshire rhubarb.
On Saturday, Chris Bavin from the BBC’s ‘East Well for Less’ will take to the stage to show you how to cook up a storm without blowing your budget.
What’s more, Sunday features a secret chef whose recent TV culinary creations have caught the attention – and taste buds – of the local area. We’re not revealing who this person is just yet, keeping checking our website for more information!
Much More to Enjoy
There’s much more to this year’s festival than our celebrity chefs. This year’s line-up includes live music on Saturday in our heated yurt, with a line-up compiled by Wakefield’s own Long Division.
On Sunday, our yurt will be home to a range of family-themed activities including healthy eating and cooking well on a budget.
So… Why Rhubarb!?
Wakefield is part of Yorkshire’s famed and mysterious Rhubarb Triangle, known throughout the country for producing the finest forced rhubarb. Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb has received protected name status alongside other famous delicacies such as Champagne and Parma Ham!
