Wakefield Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb

Wakefield’s annual Festival of Food, Drink and Rhubarb made a welcome return to the city centre on the 22-24 February 2019.

For those of you who didn’t visit us, here’s some highlights from the weekend.
The festival market was a ‘foodie’ dream, and featured many products with a rhubarb twist, along with some of the best street food and drink Yorkshire has to offer.

We welcomed brand new guests to the festival including Katie Rushworth from ITV’s Love Your Garden, Chris Bavin from BBC’s Eat Well for Less, and finally Wakefield’s very own Karen Wright, who was a contestant on last year’s Great British Bake Off. Each celebrity chef brought their innovative rhubarb-inspired creations to the stage and wowed us all.

There was plenty to for the Kids to do including, a vegetable critter workshop, chef hat making and face painting – which were all free of charge.

We also added a fully heated Yurt into the mix this year: The Rhu-bar. The Rhu-bar was home to a bar – believe it or not – with a whole list of rhubarb-themed drinks to enjoy! Local musicians from both Long Division, and Wakefield Music Collective took to the stage and created a brilliant atmosphere.

The sun really did have its hat on for the foodie fun filled weekend – we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Next year’s festival takes place on 21 – 23 February 2020. To find out more and keep up-to-date with our plans, sign up for our e-newsletter or like our Festival Facebook page (Food, Drink and Rhubarb Festival), Twitter page (@RhubarbFestival) and Instagram Page (@mywakefield)
