Pontefract Liquorice Festival, Sunday 7 July

Join us in celebrating our town's unique historic links with liquorice during a day of sweet-themed fun and activities for all the family across the town centre - and at Pontefract Castle!

Browse the colourful stalls of our festival market in the historic town centre, selling a wide variety of produce - many with a liquorice twist!

Enjoy delicious food and drink, live entertainment and fun children's activities throughout the day.

This year's festival has extended to include more sweet-inspired fun at Pontefract Castle including showings of The Lego Movies on our huge cinema screen!

What's more, you can travel between the town centre and the castle using our free Park and Ride service - or you can hitch a ride on our free Liquorice Land Train

A man moves amongst members of the public.

Gradually smoke begins to creep from out of his trouser leg. Next, it arises from his collar, then his sleeves. What starts as a tiny wisp, ends up as an all-consuming plume. Can you help him out before he disappears completely?

Liquorice Talks

Tom Dixon

Local storyteller Tom Dixon is hosting fascinating Liquorice Talks in Pontefract Library at 11.30am and 2.30pm, where you can learn more about Pontefract's famous liquorice roots!

Free of charge but places are limited.

Pontefract Liquorice Festival Park & Ride Map

Park for free in Pontefract Park and jump aboard a festival bus, leaving roughly every 10 minutes.

Buses drop off at Stuart Road (roughly a minute's walk to the festival) and  Pontefract Castle.

The last bus of the day returns to Pontefract Park at 4.45pm.

Liquorice Land Train

Land Train

Travel between the town centre and Pontefract Castle on our Liquorice Land Train, departing from the castle and the Town Hall every 15 minutes.

From 10am until 4pm.

The last land train of the day will travel from the castle to the town centre at around 3.45pm.

Walking between the town centre and castle only takes 10 minutes.
