Details

Visit the National Coal Mining Museum's new Community Exhibition Space to find exhibitions by visiting artists.

This quarter from September to 17th December 2017 the museum are delighted to be exhibiting the fascinating work of world renowned Japanese miner painter Sakubei Yamamoto (1892-1984).

His works are important social history, including as they do, not only works showing life down the mines for women and children as well as men, but also scenes of daily life in mining towns which are fascinating.

The pictures present quite a different picture of Japan to that which most people are used to.
