Fri 23 Oct Hans Koller Quartet

Details

Hans Koller, originally from Bavaria, has been living and working in the UK for nearly 30 years, with an increasingly impressive list of compositions and collaborations, both live and recorded (e.g. Steve Lacy, Steve Swallow, NDR Big Band).

As a pianist (most recently at Wakefield Jazz with Jim Rattigan’s Pavillon), he combines humour, intellect and technique to engaging effect, with influences from across the jazz spectrum, from Bill Evans through Monk and Herbie Nichols.

This international quartet will also feature the similarly intense yet lyrical Martin Speake on alto sax, plus a top Danish rhythm section.

“He solves the perpetual jazz conundrum of making music for the mind and the body.” – John Fordham (The Guardian)
