Gateway to Eternity: Death and the Afterlife in Ancient Egypt

Visit Gateway to Eternity and step inside a recreated Ancient Egyptian tomb. Discover the rituals and beliefs around death and the afterlife in this fascinating and beautiful exhibition.

Treasures on display include grave goods borrowed from the British Museum and National Museums Liverpool World Museum, alongside the mummy of a woman named Perenbast, a temple singer who lived over 2,500 years ago, on loan from The Manchester Museum, The University of Manchester.

The exhibition will also display fascinating objects from Wakefield’s own Ancient Egyptian collection, including a mummified baby crocodile. These were collected by local wine merchant William Fennell, who helped fund some of the first scientific excavations in Egypt in the late 19th century.
