Details

In partnership with Louder Than War, Long Division will be occupying Wakefield Cathedral on Saturday 2 June for a huge day of live music, performances and much more across the city centre. See the full line up of artists and bands below for Wakefield Cathedral.

Thomas Ragsdale & CAPA College - 13:15
Melding cinematic electronica with immersive soundscapes and blissful techno workouts Thomas’ music has featured in two groundbreaking BBC documentaries by Adam Curtis alongside Brian Eno, Burial and Aphex Twin.

Cattle & Cane - 14:15
Capable of shifting even the hardest of hearts with their perfect soaring harmonies. Cattle & Cane have rightly earned a reputation as one of the North East’s most magical live acts.

The Membranes - 15:15
The Membranes are a band responsible for an artful and highly original reshaping of rock music, taking post punk into new shapes. This show will see them joined by a choir.

The Surfing Magazines - 16:30
Containing one half of Slow Club and two thirds of The Wave Pictures, the principle influences of the band are Bob Dylan, The Velvet Underground and all the great surf guitar music of the 1960s. The Surfing Magazines intend to rock out and blow your mind, and then to mellow out and soothe your mind, and then to rock out again.

Marnie - 17:45
Whilst her legendary and pioneering band Ladytron have been on hiatus (a hiatus recently ended...) Marnie has created her own version of their soaring, dark and alluring electro-pop. Using soul crashing synths and hook-laden choruses to bring her own up-tempo electro dream-pop to life, she will turn Wakefield’s Cathedral into a vast sonic cathedral.

Charlotte Hatherley - 19:00
A true musical polymath and much sought-after collaborator working, as well as venturing into the worlds of fashion, theatre and film, Charlotte Hatherly also composed the score for The Last Man, a dystopian sci-fi short which will be projected live during her performance at Long Division.

King Creosote - 20:15
Hailing from Fife, Scotland, King Creosote is a folk songwriter equal parts geometry, self-deprecation, cosmic wonder and seafaring poetry.

Billy Bragg - 21:30
Known for his political ‘bashed out punk rock’ style, the elder statesman of today, bearded and ‘ruggedly handsome’ (according to one Facebook fan), refuses to slip into the dotage of self-parody. For every protest song, there is a declaration of love. Mixing pop and politics is a tall order, but where there’s a starting block, there’s a great leap forward.
