Details
The Hepworth Wakefield Garden, designed by internationally acclaimed landscape architect Tom Stuart-Smith, is a beautifully landscaped space free for all to enjoy.
The garden has a year-round programme of outdoor sculptures, special events and commissions. Opened in Summer 2019, the first sculptures installed are works by Lynn Chadwick, Rebecca Warren, Michael Craig-Martin and Barbara Hepworth.
Nestled between the David Chipperfield-designed Hepworth building and the redbrick Victorian mills on the other side, with the river Calder running by, the garden allows visitors to get up close to outdoor art.
As Barbara Hepworth herself said, "You can’t look at a sculpture if you are going to stand stiff as a ram rod and stare at it, with sculpture you must walk around it, bend toward it, touch it and walk away from it."
