Sat 25 May Horbury Fan-Samba-Gorical Parade

The Cluntergate Centre, in Horbury, have teamed up with Wakefield based arts organisation, Edgelands Arts, to present a unique parade inspired by Wakefield born naturalist and eccentric, Charles Waterton. The 'Fan-Samba-Gorical Parade' will leave Horbury Memorial Gardens on the 25th May at 11am and wind its way through the village via Tithe Barn Street, Queen Street and High Street finishing at the Cluntergate Centre with more music, dance, food and drink.

The Cluntergate Centre were successful in securing Co-op Local Community Funding in 2018 giving a boost to local art and culture. Edgelands Arts will curate multiple workshops for collective 'creative making' and 'music' to encourage inclusion and civic pride and have a celebratory impact on all who take part or turn up to watch.

Using the expeditions of Charlies Waterton as inspiration, artists from Edgelands Arts will work with communities in Horbury to create willow and hand held birds, beasts and fantastical creatures that will follow a newly formed Samba Band through the streets.

Charlie Wells from Edgelands Arts said "This is a really great way for people from across the Horbury Community to come together, to explore new activities and to celebrate the town and its people. It's fantastic to see the Cluntergate Centre working to become a hub for creative activity and creating connections at the heart of the community."

Samba and Making workshops will run on Sunday 19th, Thursday 23rd, and Friday 24th May at various times and locations in the village. All the workshops are free to attend and are open to all ages. Making templates and instructions for you to create at home can be downloaded from
