Details
Since it was founded in 2010 by Richard Wheater, Neon Workshops has become the UK’s leading neon sculpture teaching workshop and fabrication studio, making Wakefield the go-to place for artists from all over the world, looking to use neon.
Wheater has opened its ‘sister ship’ project space ‘7A Wakefield’, in order to take on larger projects.
In opening the new space, Wheater hopes to provide a stepping stone for ambitious creatives keen to work at a larger scale and to fill the gap for those between small artists’ studios and the large, funded institutions.
7A is a big, bright open plan space which gives local practitioners to prepare oversize projects for national and international exhibitions. The space has been used by both Leeds College of Music and Wakefield College, as well as photographers and artists.
7A allows for creating and assembling large scale pieces of work – something that Neon Workshops and other local ambitious creatives have been crying out for.
