Four theatre pieces performed against the stunning backdrop of Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon.

Steven B Williams' The Man In The Moon is a new piece of theatre that invites everyone into homeless man Alvi’s world, drifting from place-to-place and praying to The Moon, where his mum always said he’d find an angel looking down on him. Revealing Alvi to be gay, Williams’ starting point for the tale came through learning the statistic that 24% of all homeless youth in the UK identify as belonging to the LGBTQ+ community. Physical theatre that illustrates the orbiting planets, expanding stars and hurtling comets promises to merge with rich dialogue to create a multifaceted experience where Alvi becomes more than the statistic and the folklore surrounding the Man in the Moon is reordered.

Paul Bateson's Children Of The Moon is a site-specific theatre piece inspired by the Moon. The cast of Children Of The Moon will be young people from the city, all GCSE or A-Level performing arts students who will gather in the former Market Hall in the morning to create a performance that will be seen there later that evening. Their brief will be to make magic using moon-related inspirations.

In 8 Days, Wakefield’s Robert P Clarke sets out to explore an alternative story of the moon landing in 1969, which promises to be very much more down to earth. Integrating performance, storytelling and factual imagery, audiences will look through the eyes of a young child, simply imagining what the moon landing could be like before the acheivement became reality, delving into everyday life and attitudes of 50 years ago. Relaying the news of humankind’s first footsteps on the moon and such momentous history being made, 8 Days will evoke the spirit of the time to explore themes of victory, success and collective acheivement as well as moon landing conspiracy theories.

CoActive and Stride's Tides Of Change is a playful and dreamlike happening taking in everything lunar; from the balletic movements of astronomical bodies with the power to control the waves, down to a cheeky mouse trying to steal moon cheese; partnered with an exhibition of visually striking and fantastical artworks. Tides of Change comes from the imaginations of the young people of Havercroft, Lupset, Eastmoor and Portobello with Wakefield based visual artists with learning difficulties. Come and howl with us under the silvery light.
