Re-opening information
The library is re-opening on 13 July 2020 with reduced hours initially – see schedule below. There will be changes to its operation to protect the health of everyone. Please see the website for health and safety guidelines and changes to services.
The first 'free' public library in Pontefract was built with money donated by the famous philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The Art Nouveau building was officially opened on the 21st of September 1905. The current library was opened in 1975. The old Carnegie library later became Pontefract Museum.
Pontefract Library has a range of services available to local residents and visitors, including internet access.
These include:
•Large collection of fiction and non-fiction books, including large print and talking books
•Variety of ‘quick choice’ and easy access popular material
•Reference and information material
•Newspapers and periodicals
•Community notices
•Large local history collection
•Large sound and vision collection
•31 public access computers with FREE internet access and Microsoft Office suite
•FREE access at the library to www.ancestry.co.uk , www.findmypast.co.uk and www.which.com

•2 Microfilm readers
•Quiet study space
•A4 and A3 colour printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
