Family Cookery Workshop

Family Cookery Workshop

In this special family workshop we will delve into some of the old fashioned recipe books that we have in our museum collections, we will discover some of the ingredients that were popular in past times and we will investigate some of the ways in which people preserved foods in the days before refrigerators were invented. And in addition to looking at objects and information from the past we will also have the opportunity to touch, smell and taste some of the ingredients from the historic recipes such as dried fruit and spices.

Inspired by the spices, we will then have some fun drawing our own amazing gingerbread people designs before each family measures and mixes all of the ingredients they will need to bake their own gingerbread people at home. The ingredients used on the day will all be dairy and gluten free. While there will be no nuts present, we cannot guarantee that the ingredients that are used in this workshop have been processed in nut-free environments.

This workshop has been developed as a partnership between Wakefield Adult Education Service and Wakefield Museums & Castles. The workshop is suitable for families with children of all ages and has been designed to provide opportunities for families to learn new skills and have fun together!

Please be aware that participants will be required to complete the Wakefield Adult Education Service Enrolment Form at the beginning of the workshop, this enables us to receive funding to run further courses and time will be allotted for this. A member of the Wakefield Adult Education Service Team will then give an introductory talk of about 15 minutes.

This workshop will take place in the Wakefield Museum Learning Zone which is located on the Upper Ground Floor of the Wakefield One building. All materials will be provided. Spaces are limited so booking is essential.
