Details
Get closer to nature at Stanley Marsh Nature Reserve.
Woodland, marshland and ponds make up this quiet nature reserve, making it ideal for wildlife and nature lovers alike. Take a relaxing stroll around the Marsh and look out for dragonflies, frogs and newts, not to mention the many insects and birds calling the reed beds their home.
In the 1800’s the area the reserve sits in today was part of Stanley Deep Drop Pit, one of the five working pits that formed Stanley Victoria Colliery.
Want to learn more about the Marsh? Look out for interpretation boards dotted around the circular path.
The path around the Marsh is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs and leads straight from the car park.
