Museum Hub

South Elmsall Library

Barnsley Road,
South Elmsall,
West Yorkshire,

As part of Wakefield Museums’ Arts Council England funding, a brand new Museum Hub has opened at South Elmsall library.

The hub offers a flexible space to provide a museum offer in the south of the district which is further away from other museum sites.

The display is themed by these ‘depths’ of time, where different layers of history, from the ancient to present, represent people’s lives in the south of the district.

Stories of a coral reef hundreds of millions of years old, marching centurions, swashbuckling civil war cavaliers, brave mining rescue squads, a wartime schoolgirl and a famous playwright all build up the layers of fascinating history in this area.

The hub currently houses objects such as Roman coins, Anglo-Saxon spearheads, Civil War cannonballs, mining equipment, a 1940s satchel and original play scripts from John Godber.
