‘It’s a Knockout!’

The museum hub at South Elmsall Library has been redeveloped for 2019.

The hub offers a flexible space to provide a museum offer in the south of the district which is further away from other museum sites.

This new display centres on local boxing legend William ‘George’ Dilks. The South Elmsall area has a proud boxing heritage and alongside other boxing notables from the area like Bobby Hinds and Don Stacey, George Dilks went on to enjoy great local support during his heyday in the late 1940s and early 1950s.

The hub displays George’s kit kindly loaned by his family who still live in the town. There is also a digital photographic display featuring photographs of George alongside other boxing related images from the museum collections.
